Our History

A long time ago (well 1987 seems like a long time ago) in an old metal warehouse, our company began by creating hand-made custom shutters. We were originally known as Southwest Shutters. Kevin Jones, the original owner, established a wonderful foundation for Ron and Deanna Wheeler when they purchased the business in 1999. Ron continued to develop the business with the shutters and then made the decision to expand.

In 2002, we were honored to become a Merillat Cabinetry dealer. We had the desire to expand and grow the business to encompass additional interior solutions. Capitalizing on Ron’s prior cabinet installation history (and his attention to detail (a.k.a. “pickiness”) – the business continued to expand. Thus, the name change to “Southwest Shutters and Kitchen Design”.

Fast forward to July 2007. We were thrilled and very fortunate to bring two incredible talents into the business as partners: Tony Rohlik and Lenny Rohlik. The addition of these gentlemen brought an immense wealth of industry knowledge and experience. We went from a great little company to becoming a very full-service organization with awesome talents to assist our customers on multiple aspects of remodeling or home building.

Even though we have a great history, a great company, and great products... More importantly, we have great people and we’re excited about our future!

My roots are deep in the soil of Tucson. I moved here when I was 10 years old from the mid-west and if you were to see the picture from when I moved here, you could tell the roots are very deep! I started working for my first cabinet company when I was a sophomore in high school. I eventually was promoted to Operations Manager for a large local cabinet/ countertop company and held that position from 1985 to 2000. After that, I was hired to open a local cabinet distribution center for a major national company and was the General Manager for over 6 years. However, the American dream kept beckoning. It was July 2007 when I finally decided to take the big leap and become an entrepreneur. Joining Interior Innovations has been a great experience because I’m able to utilize my vast experience from the cabinet industry to efficiently manage operations, forecasting, strategic planning, quality control and sales.

As a native Arizonan, I feel blessed to have been culturally inaugurated into the southwest yet have thoroughly enjoyed the eclectic tastes derived from clients moving here from different parts of the country. Constantly challenging myself with new projects and applications, I thrive on learning what the client is seeking to accomplish with their cabinetry and then designing the ultimate solution. My appreciation for the industry began with installing cabinets years ago as a subcontractor for several companies. Even though the physical labor was always tough (OK – backbreaking), I appreciated the beauty of the designs and the cabinetry. In 2002, I was given the opportunity to become a dealer for Merillat Cabinetry. Since I had never fulfilled my dream of becoming an architect, it was a very rewarding transition to be able to use creative design techniques with products I love. Since then, I have been able to utilize my field experience and my love for design to create both the standard and the truly exceptional creations for my clients.
